Fashion Forward 002 - Wardrobe Auditing
Today is the 3rd last day on the Chinese calendar, the day of spring cleaning, perfect time for ‘wardrobe auditing’. It’s a subject that we got quite a few raised hands for. Women love shopping, anything from clothes to shoes to bags. The thing is, we are also the ones who whine about having nothing to wear. What kind of logic is that? We keep buying and stuffing our wardrobe until it’s so overwhelmed that makes it hard to see through the hills and mountains of clothes. Here are a few steps on wardrobe auditing which will hopefully help!
1. Break Old Patterns
Don’t we all have like 20 pieces of a certain item? For some, it could be black turtlenecks, others stripe tees. It’s almost like an addiction. If we catch ourselves having this habit, it’s time to break it and simply keep the best 5 out of the 20 selectively and be at peace with ourselves. It’s also wise to stop buying them further.
2. Let Go
Have a good scan over everything in our wardrobe including shoes, bags and accessories. Purge the unwanted items such as those that don’t fit, don’t like, unworn for over a year, faded, broken etc. Be decisive. Give them away or up-cycle them. A friend of mine turned an unwanted old high school sweater into a cute beret. Brilliant!
3. Reorganise Your Wardrobe
Yah not easy to let go but after the purging, we’ll feel so good about ourselves. Our wardrobe can finally breathe again and we can find things. We can discover the gems that we thought have disappeared. We’ll be nicely surprised! Then spend some time to re-organise it systematically. Arrange by category, colour, season or style. It’s a personal preference, as long as it works for us, there’s no right or wrong approach.
Next up, we’ll start to set style goals and build an intact wardrobe. Be blessed!
